Blog Journal 9

As a distance learner this semester, I have discovered a lot of things about this way of education. It has not all been great for many of us as you could probably guess. What I don't like about this semester is that none of my classes require me to leave my room so it is very easy to go days on end without stepping outside of my apartment. This is not very good for my mental health, or many other students' I would guess. I have liked that everything is online so I can see all of my assignments far in advance and access them whenever I want. When I'm a teacher I would make distance learning better by making more social opportunities for students in class.

Open Education Resources (OERs) are resources that educators or others share for educational purposes. These resources greatly benefit other teachers and make it easier to create and share things such as lesson plans. They are part of creative commons licenses to show that this work can be used for educational purposes. This source: https://www.oercommons.org/ is a website that provides users with OERs in one place. It is a very good resources for educators.

While recently working with PowerPoints in class I have learned many new skills that I was unaware of before. I learned how to record a voiceover to accompany my powerpoint, how to do rolling credits, how to show my name on the handout, and how to design my own slide layout. I really liked learning how to record a voiceover, but next time I would be sure to make my voice more clear and have better speaker notes to go along with it so I don't confuse myself. I didn't like how I designed my slides that much because I could've been more creative. Here are my two PowerPoints:

  1. Not leaving my house is EXACTLY why I hate online learning, I feel as if I am less productive and it definitely takes a toll on overall wellbeing. I do appreciate learning online due to benefits like knowing assignments early, having "more time, no worry of being late due to commuting to campus, and professors check their emails more that they are not in classes. I do not like communicating over emails though because professors sometimes do not understand what I'm asking and it's rather annoying to go back and forth.
