Blog Journal 4

This week we were introduced to ELA standards. I chose the seventh grade technology matrix. One of the standards listed is LAFS.7.SL2.5. This standard says that you must incorporate multimedias in the form of videos and such in your presentations and demonstrations in order to further drive home your points. I do feel prepared to implement this kind of technology in an educational environment because I have worked with programs such as imovie and I know how to make online posters now. It also mentions knowing how to work audio recorders and I am comfortable with doing that.

The next useful tool we learned about was the CPALMS website for educators. I chose the seventh ,grade once again, as well as language arts because that is what I would want to teach. There were 39 original student tutorials for language arts. I looked at the tool titled "writing a great paragraph". This tool came with multiple step by step videos that would help aid students in improving upon their paragraph writing skills. I would use this in my classroom as an introduction to warm students up to what we would be focusing on in the upcoming lessons. I believe it would be useful because it gives students a good understanding and allows me to answer any questions after the video and fill in gaps the videos could not.

Internet searching is a skill that I had not realized was so important up until recently in my college courses. This class has shown me how much easier it can be to find the exact things I'm looking for without wasting time. This is important in the classroom so your lessons run smoothly and you can better help your students find what they're looking for online. One of the most important search skills in my opinion is putting quotations around a text to make sure only that specific wording shows up. Another tip i found useful was using *  * when you're missing a word in your search. I never knew about that skill and i see how useful it can be.

Blog Journal #3

Copyright and Fair use are very important, especially in todays world where accessing others work is easier than ever. Copyright helps creators get credit and have control over where their work is being used. When something is Copyrighted, you must get permission and credit the owner before using the piece of work. When someone wants to use a portion of a copyrighted work, it sometimes falls under Fair Use. Fair Use only applies in certain situations. For example: educational use. There are a few things to keep in mind where Fair Use is concerned such as: making it original, using a small portion, and not profiting off of it. It can be easy to accidentally use someones copyrighted work, but if you know how Copyright and Fair Use works you will know how to avoid that situation completely.

Online classes have become more and more common in todays education system. Especially with the ongoing pandemic, it is important for teachers and students to recognize the possible issues that come with online schooling and how to resolve them. One of the most important issues in my opinion is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is just as bad, if not worse than regular bullying. With personal chat rooms and the anonymity that comes with the internet, it is easy for bully's to be more ruthless and harder to detect. This hostile environment can be very detrimental to a students education. In order to help solve this problem in my classroom, I would make it abundantly clear that bullying will not be tolerated and those responsible will face harsh consequences. In order to create a better environment, I would have a group discussion on the impacts of bullying and how it hurts others. I would also try to monitor chats and advise students to come to me with any problems regarding bullying. Another big problem that virtual classrooms face is academic dishonesty. It is much easier to cheat when you are not in a monitored classroom. Answers are a tap away on any device and students can communicate without teachers knowing. In order to curb this problem, I would hold a group conversation on how academic dishonestly not only effects the grading system, but how it inhibits your real learning. Cheating is a lose-lose scenario that has many harsh consequences. I would also run students work through a plagiarism database, as well as compare it to other students work to ensure it was not copied from a fellow classmate.

While making my newsletter I learned many new things about MS word and technology in general. I learned how to separate a page into columns and how to control them. I also learned how to change text box designs and make them more creative. I had a lot of fun making my own newsletter because this assignment provided me with creative freedom while also teaching me new things. Some things I would keep in mine for next time is to have a general theme for my newsletter before I start it. I found myself reworking it numerous times when I could have sketched it out before hand and saved lots of time. The skills I learned from this assignment will help me design aesthetic and informational things in the future. Whether that be in the classroom or in the professional world. Heres my newsletter!

Blog Journal #2

I've been using MS word for as long as I can remember. I believe it is one of the only softwares I know almost every function of due to how frequently I use it. I have only good experiences with using word. I will say that I am reliant on it and have trouble using other word processors, such as google docs, because I'm so used to MS Word. As a student at FSU and in high school, I appreciate how theres templates available in Word for things like MLA format.

In my opinion, learner is the most meaningful ISTE standard. The learner ISTE standard means that you must continue to update your knowledge and technology to keep it up to date and accurate in the classroom. This makes the best possible learning environment for students. The learner standard shows continuous improvement that is necessary in the growing use of technology.

I believe the term "digital native" makes a lot of sense in showing the difference between those who grew up around the internet verses those who did not. I have noticed its more difficult for older teachers to pick up new technology unless they use it often. Digital natives are good at picking up new technology and using it with little help. I believe this difference has allowed teachers to learn from students about technology in a way. Teachers usually use technology for practical purposes, while students use it for leisure very often, which gives them more time and freedom to get better at using it. I believe future students will have new technology that they are better at using than us. As technology continues to develop, there will always be a younger generation that is more efficient with it.

Technology & Me: First Blog Post

Greetings fellow blog users! My name is Bella and I'm a freshman at Florida State University; more specifically a student in EME 2040. I have a cat, who shares a room with me, named Princess Charles. I enjoy reading, writing, long boarding, and playing tennis. A more relevant fact about me is that I often have a lot of trouble with technology, but I'm excited to expand my skills.

My prior use of technology is pretty average. It consists of only what I've been forced to use for my education. I usually opt to handwrite things or create a poster by hand. Previously, I have used technology such as Microsoft programs, video chatting, social media, and other basic education tools.

I have a lot of possible tools I can utilize in my personal learning network here at FSU. Some of the tools I use online consist of Zoom for my classes, Groupme to connect with my peers, and Canvas to keep up with my grades and assignments. Although those are the tools I most commonly use, I also use things such as slack and email. Offline I use the campus library and study groups. I can always reach out to an academic advisor or counselor for advice on my learning path.
