Blog Journal #2

I've been using MS word for as long as I can remember. I believe it is one of the only softwares I know almost every function of due to how frequently I use it. I have only good experiences with using word. I will say that I am reliant on it and have trouble using other word processors, such as google docs, because I'm so used to MS Word. As a student at FSU and in high school, I appreciate how theres templates available in Word for things like MLA format.

In my opinion, learner is the most meaningful ISTE standard. The learner ISTE standard means that you must continue to update your knowledge and technology to keep it up to date and accurate in the classroom. This makes the best possible learning environment for students. The learner standard shows continuous improvement that is necessary in the growing use of technology.

I believe the term "digital native" makes a lot of sense in showing the difference between those who grew up around the internet verses those who did not. I have noticed its more difficult for older teachers to pick up new technology unless they use it often. Digital natives are good at picking up new technology and using it with little help. I believe this difference has allowed teachers to learn from students about technology in a way. Teachers usually use technology for practical purposes, while students use it for leisure very often, which gives them more time and freedom to get better at using it. I believe future students will have new technology that they are better at using than us. As technology continues to develop, there will always be a younger generation that is more efficient with it.

  1. Bella! I have to say that I am seeing a trend with this class and MS Word proficiency... I am the same way as you. I am finding it very interesting to see what ISTE standards everyone has been choosing. I like your reasoning for choosing learner and I see your point. I believe that if a teacher fails to understand how to learn, they fail to understand how to teach. I agree with you on your opinion regarding the term digital native as well, I think it is very suitable and I think it wraps up very well what it feels like to be in each generation. There is either a natural affinity to learning technology or there isn't and the trends show us that the younger generations are the ones with that affinity.
