Blog Journal #3

Copyright and Fair use are very important, especially in todays world where accessing others work is easier than ever. Copyright helps creators get credit and have control over where their work is being used. When something is Copyrighted, you must get permission and credit the owner before using the piece of work. When someone wants to use a portion of a copyrighted work, it sometimes falls under Fair Use. Fair Use only applies in certain situations. For example: educational use. There are a few things to keep in mind where Fair Use is concerned such as: making it original, using a small portion, and not profiting off of it. It can be easy to accidentally use someones copyrighted work, but if you know how Copyright and Fair Use works you will know how to avoid that situation completely.

Online classes have become more and more common in todays education system. Especially with the ongoing pandemic, it is important for teachers and students to recognize the possible issues that come with online schooling and how to resolve them. One of the most important issues in my opinion is cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is just as bad, if not worse than regular bullying. With personal chat rooms and the anonymity that comes with the internet, it is easy for bully's to be more ruthless and harder to detect. This hostile environment can be very detrimental to a students education. In order to help solve this problem in my classroom, I would make it abundantly clear that bullying will not be tolerated and those responsible will face harsh consequences. In order to create a better environment, I would have a group discussion on the impacts of bullying and how it hurts others. I would also try to monitor chats and advise students to come to me with any problems regarding bullying. Another big problem that virtual classrooms face is academic dishonesty. It is much easier to cheat when you are not in a monitored classroom. Answers are a tap away on any device and students can communicate without teachers knowing. In order to curb this problem, I would hold a group conversation on how academic dishonestly not only effects the grading system, but how it inhibits your real learning. Cheating is a lose-lose scenario that has many harsh consequences. I would also run students work through a plagiarism database, as well as compare it to other students work to ensure it was not copied from a fellow classmate.

While making my newsletter I learned many new things about MS word and technology in general. I learned how to separate a page into columns and how to control them. I also learned how to change text box designs and make them more creative. I had a lot of fun making my own newsletter because this assignment provided me with creative freedom while also teaching me new things. Some things I would keep in mine for next time is to have a general theme for my newsletter before I start it. I found myself reworking it numerous times when I could have sketched it out before hand and saved lots of time. The skills I learned from this assignment will help me design aesthetic and informational things in the future. Whether that be in the classroom or in the professional world. Heres my newsletter!
